Irish Presidential candidate Catherine Connolly TD today launches her campaign theme of “Raising People’s Voices”, setting out her vision for a Presidency that speaks up for those too often excluded from Irish society.

As part of this, Catherine will meet today with survivors of institutional abuse who are on hunger strike outside the Dáil.

Survivors of abuse in state and church-run institutions have shown extraordinary courage in demanding justice, recognition, and long-overdue supports - and Catherine will listen to them and raise their voices.

Catherine will also spend time today in Blanchardstown, meeting local community groups and individuals to hear directly about their challenges at a time of a cost of living crisis, severe housing shortages and social pressures related to the need for better public services.

Catherine will also highlight the urgent need for reform of the Carer’s Allowance. The Social Democrats are today bringing forward a Dáil motion to abolish the means test - a step Catherine fully supports, noting that carers deserve dignity, financial security, and recognition for their vital work.

Catherine Connolly said:

“Throughout my political life I have spoken up for excluded voices - survivors, carers, and communities left on the margins. As President, I will bring that same commitment to Áras an Uachtaráin.

“Everyone has the right to participate fully in society, and I will ensure that no voice is silenced and no community is ignored.”
