Tenants & Housing Campaigners for Connolly

We are tenants, housing activists, and other people directly affected by the housing crisis. We are organising together for a society where everyone has access to a safe and secure home, and where housing is treated as a right, not a commodity.

We believe that Catherine Connolly’s campaign for President offers a real opportunity to break with the status quo and put housing justice at the heart of our public life.

Too many people on this island are homeless, in insecure or unaffordable accommodation, or unable to access a place to call home. This is not inevitable. It is the result of a political and economic system that prioritises profit over people.

We believe the next President can and should play a leading role in challenging that system and using their voice to speak for:

  • A housing system rooted in public need, not private gain

  • A dramatic expansion of public housing to stabilise communities

  • A recognition of housing as a fundamental human right

  • A unified approach to housing across all 32 counties of Ireland

As people living and organising across this island, we know that many in the North are disenfranchised in the presidential election. But our housing needs are shared and any future united Ireland must be built on a foundation of social and housing rights for all.

We need a President who is unafraid to call out the failure of the housing crisis and who will demand a housing system that prioritises people’s need for shelter over the profits of landlords and developers, as Catherine has done in her time in the Dáil. And we need a President who will elevate and amplify the voices of those campaigning and taking action against the rising tide of homelessness and ever increasing rents.

We are urging all those who are affected by, or care about, the housing emergency to get involved and to vote for Catherine Connolly on 24th October.
