“As we celebrate the 20th annual Culture Night on Friday, I pay tribute to all of those who have been involved over the years.
”The small community groups who work to put these works together across the country are inspiring. The range of performances, arts and activities on show represent the very best of who we are as a people.
”Our language, our songs and stories stand proudly next to the new traditions we have welcomed in our diverse communities. From Derry to Kinsale, our people will try new things, see new shows, celebrate their language and learn their history.
”As Ireland continues to dominate popular culture, it is events like Culture Night we must continue to support. All of our people, young and old should feel included and encouraged to experience the arts.
”We must see further investment in the arts and artists in order to continue our proud tradition of creativity. Our small island punches above its weight on the world stage culturally, and long may it continue with events like Culture Night."
