Connolly: Dublin Theatre Festival a celebration of culture, diversity and community

Independent presidential election candidate Catherine Connolly welcomes the opening of the Dublin Theatre Festival, praising it as a vital showcase of Ireland’s creativity and a reminder of the power of the arts to unite people.
“I welcome the opening of the Dublin Theatre Festival and thank all involved for once again bringing world-class theatre to the Irish stage.
“We cannot underestimate the importance of the festival - and art more generally - in speaking to our hearts and allowing us to see ourselves and the times we live in through new perspectives.”
Connolly highlighted the festival’s role in reflecting Ireland’s changing society:
“Whether through witnessing the adaptation of classics or newly commissioned works, we enter as a diverse audience and emerge united by our engagement with the play.”
She also praised the wide range of participants who make the festival possible. “It is absolutely terrific to see people of all talents, backgrounds and outlooks taking part in this festival, coming from near and far.
“In supporting the Dublin Theatre Festival, we are also supporting writers, actors, designers, producers, theatre staff and the whole infrastructure of theatre that sustains Ireland as a world-renowned country of literature.”
