Ireland’s Future board members Reverend Karen Sethuraman, Stephen McCann and Senator Frances Black met with presidential candidate Catherine Connolly TD today in Dublin.
We discussed the implementation of the Joint Oireachtas Committee reports’ on the implementation of the Good Friday Agreement recommendations from 2024 including the Committee recommendation that the Government provide planned, focussed, and
targeted resourcing of groups working with women on constitutional change to support what women would like to see in the new Constitution.
We also discussed the requirement for immediate preparation for a border poll in 2030 and how that year has been described as a tipping point by leading constitutional experts and academics.
Additionally we asked Catherine Connolly TD to champion voting rights for Irish citizens in the north as well as advocate for inclusive civic engagement on Ireland’s constitutional future, emphasising respect and democratic participation.
Finally we asked Catherine Connolly TD to encourage Government and the Oireachtas to provide leadership in preparing for constitutional change and to use the unifying influence of the Presidency to promote fairness, equality, and the rights of all Irish
citizens.
We would like to say go raibh maith agat to Catherine Connolly TD for her time and considerate responses.
