DUBLIN, 2nd September:
Presidential candidate Catherine Connolly TD said “It was an honour for me to join school secretaries and caretakers on the picket line at Mercy College in Knocknaganny in Sligo this morning”.
“These essential workers have been on strike for a week seeking pension parity with teachers and SNAs. It is fundamentally unfair that almost 3,000 school secretaries and caretakers have had to resort to this just to try and get the pension and other rights that they are entitled to”.
“It’s clear to me that the secretaries and caretakers have huge support from their colleagues and in their local communities. I urge the government to do what is right and give the commitment that their union, Fórsa, has sought to engage in a process to deliver pension parity”.
